Land of Lost Voices

噤夢

Land of Lost Voices is the third album of Crescent Lament, released in 2020. A sequel to their second album, the story continues from where Elegy for the Blossoms left off: the unfinished romance between A-hiong and her lover. Using the red thread of fate that binds the star-crossed lovers, this concept album fishes out from the river of time a heartrending tale of Taiwanese people—for all to see.

 

Land of Lost Voices was recorded and produced by Jesse Liu (Chthonic’s guitarist), mixed by Sweetspot Studio in Sweden, and mastered by Finnvox Studios in Finland. The band collaborated with Bu-hiông, the winner of Best Lyrics of Golden Melody Awards, in writing the Taiwanese lyrics, and invited the illustrator KCN again to design a noir yet oriental album cover, a visual metaphor for a series of historical tragedies that battered Taiwan in the post-WWII era.

【噤夢】是 Crescent Lament 推出的第三張專輯。該專輯以終戰後國民政府來台前期的台灣社會為背景,除了在音樂上融入更豐富的民俗樂器,也將上張專輯【花殤】的主角阿香再度帶入歌曲中,藉著藝妲阿香與戀人明風兩人未完的緣分,娓娓道出歷史洪流中台灣人民遭遇的悲傷故事。

【噤夢】由閃靈樂團吉他手小黑(Jesse)操刀擔任製作人,邀請多位著名音樂人客座演出,並於瑞典及芬蘭知名音樂工作室進行混音與後製。歌詞上延續台語創作,並由金曲作詞人武雄老師擔任顧問指導,呈現出台語歌詞的優雅與美麗。

 

專輯封面則再度由台灣頂尖畫家氫酸鉀跨刀設計,令人耳目一新的華麗且帶著一絲灰暗氣息,象徵著戰後那個時代的風雨欲來。以女性為視角訴說那段曾讓人噤聲的台灣歷史,融合著金屬樂與台灣民俗樂器的華麗背景與復古唯美氛圍,再搭配主唱Muer嗓音的細細哀愁、二胡旋律的扣人心弦,更讓人對這張專輯充滿期待:恆月三途,這次,想說什麼樣的故事?

 

「今夜又是落雨暝,雨聲藏哀悲;手彈琵琶淚抹停,風中寂寞時。」出自肺腑的字字句句,勾勒出歷歷在目的鮮明畫面。Crescent Lament 第三張專輯 -【噤夢】,2020年正式發行。

Elegy for the Blossoms

花殤

Elegy for the Blossoms is the second album of the Taiwanese folk metal band Crescent Lament, released in June 2015, which recounts a story based on the life of Taiwanese geishas in the late Japanese period and early Chinese Nationalist Party period in Taiwan’s history—behind their smiles when greeting the clients, the geishas could not help but feel helpless, since they had no say over their own lives.

Elegy for the Blossoms was written in Taiwanese, and blends Taiwanese history, culture, and metal metal, while using traditional Taiwanese and Japanese instruments to create a sorrowful yet beautiful atmosphere. 

 

The album cover was designed by well known Taiwanese illustrator KCN, with a modern retroactive image.

【花殤】是 Crescent Lament 的第二張專輯,於2015年發行。專輯訴說著一位台灣藝妲–阿香–的辛酸故事,發生在日治時代後期、至國民政府來台初期的大稻埕。

 

主角以台灣早年藝妲生活為藍本,描述台灣藝妲面對賣藝賣笑、送往迎來的人生,有著萬般不由己的感慨。專輯結合台灣歷史文化,考究藝妲生活背景,除了展現當時藝妲風貌、描述漸被遺忘的藝妲百態,也參考當時知名、用以介紹藝妲的「風月報」,將藝妲自殺、與商人相戀等歷史背景情節,以詩文為歌詞編入專輯中。

 

有別於第一張專輯【末路之召】,【花殤】以台語創作,結合台灣歷史文化、歌德金屬、台灣民謠元素,並加入台日傳統民俗樂器,營造出哀愁唯美的氛圍;專輯封面更邀請「台灣氫年」創作者、知名畫家氫酸鉀繪製,展現出具時代感的復古意象。

Behind the Lethal Deceit 末路之召

Behind the Lethal Deceit is a conceptual album released by Crescent Lament in November 2011. The story recounted in the album was inspired by the wars in former Yugoslavia in the 1990s, with a connection that the band tries to build to the military threat from China that Taiwan faces today, to express the band’s anti-war ideas.

【末路之召】是 Crescent Lament 的第一張專輯,於2011年發行。專輯描述著一場淒冷國度的血腥戰爭,藉由深陷悲慘戰事中的小人物觀點,

凸顯訴諸暴力的愚昧與和平共存的無價。故事啟發自二十世紀九〇年代的南斯拉夫戰爭,在這個戰亂的時空背景下,握有軍事優勢的國家獨裁者,意圖以武力弭平他邦的民族自決聲浪;於是乎,數以萬計的無知青年被國家所徵召,驅策至血腥的戰場執行獨裁者的偏執意志。

 

然而就如同專輯圖像所傳達的毀滅意象 —當歌頌戰爭的雕像已然傾頹、一切以死寂作為結束之時,憑恃武力的威權終將覆滅,留下的只有那些被獨裁者利用的青年們,共業般地在遙遠異土垂死掙扎;也唯有在此時,平凡的人們才會洞悉軍權政府的貪婪、深刻地體悟到訴諸武力的愚闇與和諧共處的珍貴。

 

對現今的台灣來說,來自中國的武力恫嚇,仍然箝制著這個自由國度的發展;Crescent Lament 藉由【末路之召】,陳述著一個反思和平的戰爭故事,藉由哀傷的旋律、悲憤的嘶吼、與狂暴的節奏,深刻地描繪著這個牽動台灣的議題。
